This Social and Behavioral Context for Academic Learning, Development & Innovation Project will develop the Emotion Explorer digital social emotional learning (SEL) intervention for kindergarten through 2nd (K-2) grades using a systematic iterative user-centered testing process to ensure high usability, pedagogical appropriateness, and demographic equivalency. Our planned field and pilot tests will examine feasibility and cost efficiencies for use in K-2 classrooms as well as test the promise of this new SEL intervention for impacting student social emotional, behavioral, and academic outcomes and teacher SEL self-efficacy.
Emotion Explorer will be a universal SEL program (applied to all students equally) that will focus SEL lessons and activities on building young student’s emotion regulation (ER) skills with separate versions for K, 1st, and 2nd grades focused on the emotion families and emotion words per grade. EE will also include training and administration tools to facilitate delivery by K-2nd grade educators.
